Niels is Member of the Board of Directors with the Global Entrepreneurship Research Association that hosts the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor and an assistant professor with Utrecht University School of Economics. His research interests evolve around individuals’ entrepreneurial and innovative behaviour in regional and social contexts – with publications in several leading academic journals. He is also cofounder of the Utrecht University Social Entrepreneurship Initiative and a member of GECES, an expert group advising the European Commission on activities related to the Social Business Initiative. Since 2005 he has actively contributed to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) and co-authored several GEM Global Reports.
